The Heart of the Game Movie Review

“Sink your teeth in their necks draw blood!” Is the rallying cry of the Roosevelt high Rough riders. Imagining that they are a pack of wolves standing against their opponent, these girls stand together as warriors on and off of the court. In the documentary “The Heart of the Game” Seattle film maker Ward Serrill follows College tax professor and girls basketball coach Bill Resler through a remarkable seven year journey.  Serrill’s camera takes us to Roosevelt high’s gymnasium, where we come to know a high school girls basketball team whose toughness, passion, and energy lead Serrill to call “The Heart of the Game.” This unforgettable story depicts Darnellia Russell-a tough inner city girl who struggles to become the first person in her family to get a college education, and play college basketball. Russell’s loss of eligibility and legal battle to get herself back on the court, shows one girl's determination to do what she loves, play ball. With Coach Ressler her team and her family by her side Russell takes on enormous personal obstacles, and shows us what it takes to accomplish a dream. Rent this movie over the weekend to inspire you to take your game to the next level!
